Pixie Preschool Completes Phase I of Renovation

The new playground was inaugurated with a ribbon cutting ceremony October 18, 2014. A crowd of over 100 people gathered to greet former teachers of the preschool, celebrating its 44th year. Founders of the school, retired pastor Joe Woods and his wife Louise, were present to see a plaque unveiled in their honor. The new playground equipment, fencing and surfacing meets New Jersey’s updated safety standards for playgrounds. New outdoor murals on the church wall  add to the playground’s charm. Pixie Preschool’s revitalization now moves into Phase II, encompassing several major renovations inside the building of Spotswood Reformed Church, where the school is located.  See the latest pictures, below.

4 year oldsThe director of Pixie Preschool is Gail Parizman.  She can be  reached at 732-251-3130. Linda Radozycki is the office manager. Each age level has its own classroom, conducted by a head teacher with assistant teachers.  The children enjoy several additional spaces throughout the facility including the “Big Room” for indoor recreation such as bike-riding and climbing, a cafeteria area, nap areas, and an outdoor playground.

Pixie Preschool started in 1970 after the Spotswood Reformed Church constructed a new Education Building. Realizing the building would not be used during the week, the church decided that a  preschool would be a wonderful use of the space, as there was no preschool in that part of Middlesex County.  Within two years, Pixie had four classrooms in use. The school was open five days a week, with morning and afternoon sessions. In the 1990’s, to meet the increasing demand for all day child care, the school began day-long classes for three and four year olds, with before and after care. A natural outgrowth was the establishment of a summer program.  Pixie is now open year round. In summer it accommodates children two to six years of age.

Pixie Preschool welcomes volunteers, and conducts background checks of volunteers.  Several generations of Pixie graduates are now vibrant adults contributing a legacy of stability and continuity to the community.
