The Director of Mental Health is a cooperative position between the community partnership organizations that make up the Global Grace Mental Health Consortium, including CIC, and will be under the Reformed Church of Highland Park Affordable Housing Corporation.

Position Description
The Director of Mental Health creates, develops and oversees mental health strategies and programming for clients of RCHP-AHC and other community entities that share space at 19 S 2nd Avenue in Highland Park (Interfaith-RISE, Accompany Now, Still Waters, NeighborCorps, NJIC3, DIRE). Programming will be culturally appropriate and trauma-informed, and will include non-clinical push-in services, the formation of support and affinity groups, and the development of a network to provide mental health counseling. The Director will oversee a mental health training program for Master of Social Work and/or PsyD/PhD level clinical students and provide clinical supervision or assist in obtaining supervision from community members.
Reporting to the Director of Case Management, this position is 40 hours per week at $80,000-$90,000/year plus benefits.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop, oversee and coordinate timely mental health services and/or referrals for refugee and other qualified individuals to ensure client access to essential mental health care along the 3 program tiers for working effectively with clients who don’t typically access traditional clinical mental health services:
- Push-in programming in settings where clients are already receiving services
- The creation of affinity peer support and mental health groups for diverse populations
- Connection with clients to clinical services including: talk therapy and psychotherapy, psychiatry, hospitalization, and out- and in-patient treatment
- Push-in programming in settings where clients are already receiving services
- Conduct timely mental health intakes with clients to assess mental health needs
- Provide individualized and family support through culturally appropriate direct services, referrals, psychoeducation and advocacy
- Assess and monitor client progress
- Detail client interactions in accordance with program requirements; input client information in relevant case note system and assist with tracking and reporting as needed
- Collaborate with coworkers and other community-based organizations to develop strong mental and physical health care connections and referral networks in the community
- Oversee training and lead the activities of volunteers and interns working with PC to meet the mental health needs of clients. Provide supervision for clinical interns (e.g., Masters of Social Work students and/or PhD/PsyD students.)
- Work closely with clients, colleagues, and other community-based organizations to develop and implement mental health service support plans (wholistic approach to supporting physical and mental health needs)
- Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
Education:
- LCSW or PsyD, PhD in Social Work or Psychology. Must be licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey.
Work experience:
- Relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 2 years’ experience strongly preferred
- Experience providing mental health services to marginalized communities. Experience providing clinical care to refugee and immigrant populations, preferred.
- Experience in program development, reporting and assessment.
- Experience providing culturally competent supervision to students and clinicians in training.
- Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred
- Candidates with lived experience as refugees and/or other immigrant populations strongly preferred
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Attention to detail and accuracy in work product
- Ability to work independently
- Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills
- Strong links to local mental health and other healthcare facilities are a plus
- Demonstrated success working and communicating in a multicultural environment
- LGBTQ+ affirming skills
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is strongly desired (e.g., Spanish, Pashto, Farsi/Dari, Eritrean, Arabic, Swahili, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle
Working Environment:
- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. COVID protocols enable service delivery via telehealth. Office COVID safety protocol include air purifiers and masking indoors.
- Flexible work schedule, may require occasional weekend and/or evening work
