Pony-rides, trail rides, and a petting zoo were featured attractions at Family Farm Day, an event held by Spotswood Reformed Church to raise money to revitalize the playground of Pixie Preschool. The event launched a fund-raising campaign to renovate the preschool’s playground with new surfacing, fencing, and play equipment in order to comply with NJ state standards taking effect in 2014. With guidance from the CDC, the event raised over $4,000 dollars. 58 church members, as well as additional volunteers from the community, staffed the farm festival.
It was held Sunday August 18 from noon to 5 pm at Superior Horsefarm, in Monroe Township. Tractor-pulled wagon rides, face-painting, story-telling, henna tattoos, food, and a fairway of free children’s games rounded out the activities. All proceeds went to benefit Pixie Preschool, the community service that Spotswood Reformed Church has conducted for 43 years. The preschool is serving its third generation of families in Spotswood, Jamesburg, Monroe Township, East Brunswick and Helmetta, and always welcoming new families.
The church set a goal to raise $36,000 for the playground renovation and is working on plans for a variety of future events to obtain the money needed. The campaign has obtained sponsors from the local business community as well as the congregation.
